Norway – Lofoten Islands Hiking

July 2024 we headed to the Lofoten Island in Norway for our first hiking trip.  The Lofoten Islands are located off the NW coast of Norway near the Arctic Circle.  Tromsø, which is the main hub of the Arctic in Norway, has become quite popular for its Northern Lights and skiing touring in the winter (Kim went in March 2024/see previous Trip Report).

The Lofoten island chain is dotted with colorful fishing villages.  Many of the old fishing cabins have been renovated for tourist lodging during the summer and winter. The islands are made up of some of the oldest rock on earth, dating up to 2 billions years old.  We found the hiking be absolutely lovely with panoramic views of peaks and fjords.  Sea kayaking is also popular and we spent a lovely day on calm, crystal clear water.  The sun happened to shine every day of our trip, woohoo! This is obviously not the norm given the fact that it is an Arctic area on the North Atlantic but when Kim was there in March (in normal weather) it did not detract from the beauty.
