Family Fun in the Dolomites!

Hiking in the Dolomites
Cortina

Hiking in the Italian Dolomites with this family could not have been more FUN!  Our trip began in beautiful Arco, Italy, surrounded by mountains and graced with it’s very own castle.  Arco is just over an hour north of Verona and is our base for visiting the Brenta Group of the Dolomites.  Arco offers adventures for everyone in the family! Choose from biking, hiking, climbing, canyoning, rafting or  (our favorite unique activity for the area) the via ferrata.  We warmed up with couple of super fun via ferratas located right in Arco -Via Ferrata Colodri and Via Ferrata Rio Sallagoni.

From Arco we headed into the Brenta Group to spend 5 days weaving our way through the stunning Brenta Dolomites.  Along the way we slept in cozy refugios that serve fantastic Italian 4 course meals.

The term “via ferrata” means “iron way.”  The via ferratas in this area were originally built during WWI as a way to defend the borders.  The Brenta Group is now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Below you can see the ladders – or iron ways.  Today the ladders and cables are monitored for safety by the Italian Alpine Club.  For those who just are not a huge fan of ladders and cables and heights, never fear, there are hiking routes throughout the Brenta!
